Context & Goals
UI/UX design made in Figma for an app targeting environmental change. The app is called "Splash," referencing its focus on melting polar ice and rising ocean levels. The app serves as a way for people to donate toward climate change initiatives without having to spend money.
This app uses a friendly 2D style with stylized illustrations to create a less daunting environment for a heavy subject.
Research
I did a lot of in-depth research about melting polar ice and its impact on the environment, animals, and humans. I then broke it down into four main categories.
Background
Oceans absorb more than 90% of the heat that is trapped in the atmosphere due to increasing levels of greenhouse gases (global warming.) Because of this, glaciers, ice caps, etc. have melted at alarming rates. Ice acts as a protective layer over the Earth and our oceans because they reflect excess heat back into space and keep our planet cooler.

Effect on Animals
Wildlife are losing their habitats (such as walruses and polar bears). Polar bears have had to migrate farther south and have mated with grizzly bears to create pizzly bears. As cute as they are, pizzlies are losing the abilities and protection of their parents; they are poorly adapted to both land and glacial/marine environments. Polar bears may subsequently face extinction.
Effect on Humans
Melting ice has also contributed to rising sea levels. As it rises, shores have begun to erode and wetlands have flooded, pushing people inland and affecting fishing jobs. This is an especially pressing issue for Indigenous populations in places such as Alaska.

What Can People Do?
There are many actions you can take to reduce your carbon footprint. It’s also important to spread awareness and vote for representatives who will fight to implement change. There are a myriad of ways to make an impact, and I hope to help users find some way to help through this app.
Competitive Analysis
Type & Color
I chose a variety of blue and blue-green colors to emulate the feeling of the ocean. I chose an orange as a complimentary color that would pop off the page, as well as a cream for more subtle elements.

For the typefaces, I chose Hoss Round as a friendly, organic typeface for the headlines that would lend to the organic feeling of the ocean. I chose Articulat CF for its simple readability on mobile phones.
Personas
The main target audience for this app was college-age students.

Advertising Poster
I came up with a couple of options for a poster to advertise the app on the App Store/Google Play Store. One emulates the style of the app itself, while the other creates a striking visual of why the app's cause is vital.
