Drift
"Drift" has a double meaning here. It indicates both floating in a literal sense—like the balloon—and also drifting without a purpose.
Ignite
To me, the word "ignite" brings forth the mental image of a brief and bright passion. In this case, the candle is holding its own match. The melted form of the candle shows how the candle has given into this temptation before, perhaps many times.
Submerge
The word "submerge" made me think of the muted sound of the world when you dip your head underwater. This image embodies the sensation of being underwater where it feels a bit like you're floating in the middle of nowhere.
It's a sort of balance between feeling free—floating—while simultaneously trapped within where you feel like you're supposed to be (like inside of a fish bowl).
Breathe
Breathe is used as a complete oxymoron here. A figure dressed in earth tones is suffocated by a trash bag— a rather direct reference to the earth and the impact that people have on the environment.
How would you feel if you were suffocated by human waste in the way that our world is?
